Education: BA in English Literature/minor in Art History from Florida State University
Growing up, my father blew glass and built abstract aluminum public art sculptures at Railroad Square Art Park in Tallahassee, FL. I was in awe of this work and it was the catalyst for me to have the lifelong desire to create artwork. I took a 2D art class in college wherein I created my first paper cutting. I was heavily inspired by the asian art history classes I took in college, from these I began to have a greater drive to produce my abstract paper cuttings.
I live in a rural part of Southwest Florida and the vegetation, topography and climate of this area have a big impact on my work. I like to take natural elements and warp or artificialize them to create eccentric inspirations. The cyclical components apparent throughout my work are representative of the cycles of nature and the broader universe, and how I interpret and synthesize these with my spiritual ideals.
I get an idea for one element then follow an organic process from one cut layer to the next. The work develops harmoniously and intuitively out of growth and self-discipline. My aim overall is to generate imagery that is both unique and bold.
